IYC Spokesman Task FG on Appointing Activist who Understands the PAP
The Presidential Amnesty Programme designed to reintegrate repentant Militants has suffered several setbacks ranging from funding, inability to reintegrate, and engage then in sectors of the nation’s economy framework For the ijaw Nation and the Niger Delta at large, the PAP has not lived up to its expectations as a large number of beneficiaries are yet to be meaningfully engaged, whilst others are left with the insufficient sixty-five thousand naira (65,000) stipends to survive. How long should we survive?
The spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council, worldwide comrade Bedford Berefa, stated that it is time for the amnesty programme to get pioneers that midwife the structural design of the program to man the leadership of the program so as to effectively engineer the needed development required in the region.
The appointment of retired military generals does not bring the expected result of reintegration. The President of the Federation Bola Ahmed Tinubu must appoint someone who is part and passle of the beneficiaries, who understands the creeks and knows what to do per time to get maximized results and not some retired military general who does not relate with the cause and source of the the pains of the Niger Delta region.
The President should ignore miscreants who only play to the gallery to undermine others just because they are paid to do so. The Ijaws are the pioneers of agitation in the region. However, we must adopt diplomacy in addressing issues that affect everybody in the region. As council, we advise strongly that the soon to be announced coordinator of the Amnesty Program must be a grass root person who had been involved in the creeks’ tours and disarmament programmes. We are tired of rigmarolling without meaningful progress. Employ son of the soil from Delta State to get the job done.
