Reviving the Reading Culture in Bayelsa, Stakeholders demands renovation of Library
The call for a revival of the reading culture of Bayelsans has necessitated the need
for a restructuring of the state library.
This call was made by some stakeholders who say the state government should look into the issue of renovating, restructuring and equipping the state library to serve the purpose of providing reading and learning materials.
The state library which has been moribund for some time does not have modern books and other modern learning facilities.
Some youths who spoke on anonymity said when they visited the state library, the place looks like it was not in use as most of the tables and books were covered with dust.
Some adults said they saw some books in the library however, many new and current books could not be found there.
With this development, many persons who desire to read and obtain materials for academic works in the state are made to visit private libraries or other libraries outside the state.
They appealed to the government to set up the library to meet the global standard of what is obtainable outside the state as it is being used mainly by young people which could help to reduce idleness and criminality.
As education is given much priority in the present administration, there is a need for the state library to be made functional for optimum delivery of services to the people.
