The ravaging flood situation in the Niger Delta has in recent history is uncalled for, it has become a trademark where millions of Ijaw people are displaced and left to face their fate.
The President of the famous Ijaw Youth Council, Deacon Peter Igbifa in a press briefing at port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital. The president stated that the maintenance of status quo after every flooding season clearly shows the direction of the Federal government as regard the Niger Delta people.
Igbifa lauded the prompt intervention pioneered by the Bayelsa state governor Douye Diri amid the flood devastation in the region. He urged all other governors in the region and political big wits to follow suit so as to give succor to the near hopeless people of the region due to the flood. Beyond the political jingle bell, it is time to practically carter for the people despite political divide.
The IYC president also called on the Presidential Amnesty Program Boss Maj.-Gen. Barry Ndiomu (rrtd), to show commitment to resonate hope in the face of this monumental disaster. Igbifa noted that 2022 flood has shown that the region is extremely affected by Climate Change especially Ijaw Communities in the open display of water ego in virtually every part of Bayelsa state bringing untold humanitarian crises of critical magnitude hence,

it is incumbent on all related Agencies of Federal Government to rise with urgency to the situation at hand. Igbifa pleads with the Amnesty Boss, NDDC, NEMA and the likes to hurriedly Partner with Bayelsa especially and other Niger Delta States to curtail excesses of flood impact on a people who are already grappling with a battered environment due to Oil and Gas activities.
Igbifa further called on the Amnesty Boss to provide sufficient relief materials as he begins his stakeholders engagement amongst whom are the displaced from their homes; sacked from their farms as the seas overflow.
Relief materials in form of foods and unconditional cash transfers to the millions of people who are equally stakeholders in the Niger delta, should top the chart of the PAP coordinator. According to the president, the people are pained, helpless and frustrated due to the current trend steering at us.
