The female specie has over the years come out of the regular confinement of being only domestical and handling marital issues, women are now part of every sphere of societal development and politics is one thing that women are getting more involved.
The quest for women to be involved in governance and be given more participation in political positions has made more women to continue to be in politics and push for more involvement both at the grassroots and the national level.
In view of this, the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari recently called on political aspirants in the forth coming elections to consider using women as their running mates to run for political offices.
While speaking to the presidential aspirants under the All Progressive Congress, APC she noted that women should be considered in political parties to take up other positions aside being women leaders adding that women should be given a fair play in politics to strengthen participation of women.
Mrs Aisha Buhari called on all political leaders to see women as persons who would make good leaders as they can manage the affairs of their homes hence, they are natural managers which would also transcend into managing political offices.
On her part, the wife of the Bayelsa state governor, Dr. Mrs Gloria Diri urged professional women in the state not to see politics as a dirty game but as a means of changing their future as political leaders determine the standard of living of the citizens through their programs and policies.
Dr Mrs Diri who spoke to various women under different professional platforms in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital called on them to join political parties to ensure that more women are involved in politics at the grassroots for them to have better representation in governance particularly professional women who have education and experience to effectively handle political offices.
She appealed to the women to be bold and courageous in running for political offices as she would give any woman vying for any position the needed support to achieve success.
While answering questions from the women in attendance, she also appealed to them to co-operate and give their support to each other while resisting all forms of jealousy and backstabbing which is popularly reported among women.
In a related development, New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP in Bayelsa state has called on men, women and youths from across all states in the federation who are interested in politics to join the party which is ready to offer good and qualitative leadership.
The management of the party has assured all interested persons that the party would embrace fairness in its selection process and would also ensure equality for all irrespective of gender differences.
Assistant women leader of the party, Princess Ovie-David encouraged women to join the political party saying women should not leave politics for only the men and later begin to make complains over unfavorable policies and programs of government.
She urged women in all the local government areas of Bayelsa state to ensure that they have their Permanent Voters Card, PVC as this represents their right to vote the candidate of their choice.
