The Ijaw Youth Council under the leadership of Dr. Alaye Theophilus, as president, has congratulated the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu for getting the final verdict on election petition matters. IYC urges the president to remain focused on stabilising the nation’s socioeconomic downturns as Nigerians are full of expectations for a better Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen in warri, the spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council Comrade Bedford Berefa stated that its good enough that all the election litigation are all over as the apex court has giving a final judgement upholding the legitimacy of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal government, Mr. Bedford, however, urges Mr. President to concentrate on winning the trust of Nigerians and mitigate the unwarranted hunger and economic platoon with Naira on the free flow zone.
Bedford equally tasked the Bola Ahmed Tinubu government to ensure that the east west road is critically attended to as the road has become a death trap for Niger Deltans, he noted that the Federal Government is responsible for the death of over 200 Niger deltans due neglect of bad sections on the east west road, the federal government must pay attention to mend the flood ravaged areas of the road.
He further stressed that the death trap east west road has caused avoidable economic hardship in the Niger Delta Region due to difficulties in transportation as heavy duty vehicles breakdown on a daily basis. These have caused us enough psychological damage, economic sabotage, socio-environmental tragedy, multiple insecurity, and life-threatening diseases.
The spokesman of the IYC calls out to President Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, mandate the minister of works to swing into action immediately to address the decapitated sections of the East-West road before we all die. According to Bedford, the IYC, under the leadership of Dr. Alaye Theophilus will not sit down and watch lives and properties been lost on a daily basis due to Governmental failures, the IYC will in no distant time mobilize to closedown the road to further send a stronger message if nothing is done to ameliorate the avoidable suffering of the Niger Delta people.
Also, the IYC spokesman picks the brains of Mr. President to be careful in his lopsided appointments without featuring ijaw people in his cabinet, Bedford pointed out that the Ijaw nation is the 4th largest tribe in Nigeria and the economic brain box of the country, therefore cannot be secondclass citizens in the distribution of sensitive appointment in thisday federal government. It is disheartening to see that only one Ijaw man is occupying a second in command ministerial position. This is totally unacceptable.
Bedford admonishes President Tinubu to reconsider his mode of operations before it is too late, as Ijaw people can not play second fidder roles if this nation must work. We have vibrant Ijaw sons and daughters who are very qualified in contributing to nation-building as we have always done. As Ijaw Youth Council, we demand appointments of our people in NPA, NIMASA, and other parastatals that we have comparative advantage.
The President Tinubu government should be sensitive enough to do so before things get out of hand.
