The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC has commended all stakeholders for the peaceful State, National Assembly and Presidential elections in all the states of the Niger Delta region.
National Spokesman of IYC, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe came out with this while speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, stating that despite some case of voters intimidation and manipulations recorded in some states, it did not degenerate into bloody violence as recorded in previous elections.
Comrade Ekerefe lauded the leaders of various political parties, state governors, security agencies, INEC and all other stakeholders for their efforts in making the elections peaceful.Analysing Global Renewable Energy Report 2023
He expressed his condolences to the families of those who died particularly Mr Arumudum Julius Akoi, an adhoc staff of INEC who was shot and killed in Abua/Odual local government area of Rivers state.
According to him, the deceased was a strong member of IYC, Abuja chapter and has contributed greatly to the progress of Ijaw youths in northern Nigeria.
He called on security agencies not to sweep the barbaric act under the carpet but carry out a comprehensive investigation, arrest and prosecution of the culprit.
Comrade Ekerefe also commended the Bayelsa State government under the leadership of Governor Douye Diri for the emergence of the state as the most peaceful state during the conduct of the general elections.
He pointed out that the peace enjoyed in the state was a result of the leadership style of the governor since he assumed office.
The IYC Spokesman also congratulated those who emerged victorious in the various elections while urging them not to see those who lost as enemies but partners in their efforts to deliver the benefits of democracy to the people of their constituencies and the state.
