Ijaw Nation Calls For Violent Free 2023 Elections

Central Zone of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has called for violent free polls in the zone and Ijaw territories at large.

Speaking during a Media Briefing at Ijaw House, Yenagoa, Chairman of the Central Zone of INC, Dr. Doodei Week said nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any Ijaw man.

He urged the people of Central Zone and beyond to come out in their numbers and vote for candidates of their choice in line with the laws of the country.

Dr. Week remarked that peace is high on the agenda of the Ijaw nation as no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.

He said as a body, the Central Zone of the INC which is the epicenter of the struggle has a duty to ensure that the interest of the Ijaw nation is protected and warned all those planning to perpetuate violence to have a rethink.

Responding to a question on the choice of the INC in the forthcoming presidential election, he said the body has not endorsed any presidential candidate and called on the people of Ijaw nation to vote for any candidate of their choice, while stressing that the focus of the Ijaw nation remains resource control and not restructuring as being canvassed by some of the presidential candidates.

The Chairman Central Zone INC said they have taken practical steps to sensitize people of the zone on the need for a peaceful and violent free election.

While thanking the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for supporting the campaign for a violent free election, he also hailed the introduction of BVAS, saying it will sanitize the electoral system.

He appreciated founding fathers of the INC such as Pa George Wekezie, Chief Harold Dappa Biriye, Isaac Boro amongst others, stressing that their efforts have given the Ijaw nation a sense of direction.
