Dr. Marie Therese Teibowei Makes Bold Contributions To Education In Nigeria
Dr Marie Therese Teibowei is a highly accomplished and skilled educator. She has made profound contributions to education in Nigeria. Now, her work is reaching out to other parts of the world.
She has over 20 years working experience under corporate settings in the areas of journalism, international relations, foreign languages and education.
Dr. Marie is the President/Rector, Institute of Foreign Languages and Strategic Communications (IFL-SC) Nigeria, the main focus of the Institute is to raise transformational leaders in the discipline of Foreign Language education in Africa, primarily in Nigeria.
Born to the family of Mr. Mbete Biwole Joseph and Ngabengue Dang Mariette Dr. Marie Therese Teibowei bagged a first degree with double honours in Journalism and Mass Communications & Gender Studies from the University of Buea, Cameroon in 2000. Driven by a bigger vision, Marie immediately enrolled for a Masters of Arts (MA) in Translation & interpretation at the University of Buea, Cameroon and graduated in 2002.

Marie has a well-rounded education. At the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria she undertook a doctorate degree in French and International Studies in, 2020 wish specialization in Technical Translation in the area of renewable energies.
She also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Education: Foreign Language Studies –French & studies from Ecole superieur des Enseignants diplome. Yaounde, Cameroon in 2008.
Riding on her immense passion for education and communication, she has continued to take significant strides in the industry—breaking beyond barriers to become a loved brand in the field of Education and Communications. She has an international French Language Certificate: (DELF/DALF Examiner, at the French Embassy Nigeria, in 2011 and she is a certified international translator.
As an educator today, she is the pioneer Director, Institute of Foreign Languages & Biomedical Translations, at the Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, her brain child providing practical learning objectives that encompass a communicative approach and a situational approach in learning languages.
Though a Cameroonian by birth and now a Nigerian, Marie speaks French and understands basic spanish, Russian, German and Chinese languages, giving her the ability to communicate cadres of people and ability to manage human relations, conflict resolution and the internalisation of education in Nigeria.
She is the first female in Bayelsa State to represent the State at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, 2019 and the first female to officialyy represent the State at the Conference of the parties (Cop28) in Glasgow UK, 2021.
Before her foray into International education, Dr. Marie Therese Teibowei had a full – running career in Journalism working with Cameroon Radio Television (on Television) from 2003-2008, French Media Consultant to the French Embassy in Nigeria from 2010-2011, Coordinator- Annual Niger Delta French Competition for Schools in the Niger Delta States from 2011-till date, Lecturer French and English – International Institute of Journalism-IIJ from 2011-2015, Senior Editor, News at the -Bayelsa State Broadcasting Corporation from 2011-2016, Lecturer at the French International Institute of Tourism & Hospitality, 2016, Chief Protocol Officer- IITH Presidential 2016-, Lecturer- French and Communication Skills, University of Africa Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State in 2017, Coordinator- Foreign Language Programme (IITH) in 2016, Director, Public Relations, Bayelsa Medical University, Yenagoa from 2018 – till date.
Dr. Marie is an active member of several industry groups and societies including, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Fellow Nigerian Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD) , The International Society for Oral Literature in Africa (ISOLA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters- NITI, The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), the International Society for Comparative Education Science and Technology- ISCEST, the Institute of Tourism Professionals (ITP), the Nigerian Institute of Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and a host of others.
These several years, Marie has shown herself to be an epitome of integrity, energy and hard work. She is a team player who employs a mature and responsible approach to any task that she undertakes. These attributes have made her outstanding and extremely effective as she leads her teams to implement various assignments in the state, national and international stage.
In pursuit of her professional interest, Marie as she is fondly called has attended many workshops, seminars and conferences and these have taken her to different parts of Nigeria and overseas such as the International Society of Comparative Education, Science and Technology International Conference held in Port Harcourt, 4th-8th December, 2015,at the Presidential Hotel, GRA- Rivers State, Nigeria, The University of Benin, Biennial French National Conference, Organised by the Foreign Languages Department, on April 18th, 2017, the International Conference on Foreign Language curriculum, by the French Embassy and the French Institute, Nigeria , August 7th, 2017, the University of Ibadan International Conference on Oral Literature, held at Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2018 and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), New York, USA, October 28th- to November 15th, 2019 with others numerous to mention, the west African educational caravan to Togo, Cotonou in 2020.
Dr. Marie Therese Teibowei , is the author of one of Africa Most Sought after Books, French for Leisure and Hospitality and Business Communication for Tertiary Institutions both published by Kadmon Printing Press in 2017, She has also published over 14 articles in reputable local and international journals.
