The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has bemoaned the hardship on the people caused by the devastating effect of the flood in many parts of the state.
Governor Diri came out with this during an on the spot assessment of some communities he visited in some parts of Yenagoa, Sagbama and Kolokuma/ Opokuma local government areas in the state.

The governor was accompanied by the state PDP Chairman, Mr Solomon Agwanana, Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of Taskforce on Flood Mitigation and Management, Mr Iselema Gbaranbiri, Commissioner for Works, Mr Moses Teibowei, Information Commissioner, Mr Ayibaina Duba and other top government functionaries.
Governor Diri who addressed some persons affected by the flood encouraged them not to despair in this trying period.
He presented cash gifts to the affected communities and assured them that relief materials would soon get to them through the taskforce on flooding.

However, the governor called on all Bayelsans to look out for each other and accommodate each other in this trying period.
The governor equally called on the federal government to come to the aid of the state as the present situation is beyond the resources of the state government.
In response, member representing Sagbama constituency 3, Mr Salo Adikumo and the Community Development Chairman of Adagbabiri, Mr Oyinke Ekiye including traditional chiefs of Sagbama community expressed appreciation to the governor for his magnanimity and prayed God to grant him the strength to manage the affairs of the state particularly in this flooding season.
