BAYELSA: DALON Reacts to Media Reports

BAYELSA: The management of DALON Oil and Gas Limited has responded to media reports in which some members of Igbomotoru Community in Southern Ijaw local government area claimed that armed military men sponsored by the company invaded their community shooting sporadically, leaving many persons wounded and other related allegations.

A statement from Chairman DALON Oil and Gas Limited, Chief Lebai Walson on behalf of the company has claimed that the report is a false report adding that it is the work of crude oil bunkery merchants that want to tarnish the image of the company inorder to pull the company out and continue vandalizing crude oil facilities.

Stating the company’s mandate, Chief Walson informed that DALON Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited is charged with the sole responsibility of preventing pipeline vandalism, crude oil bunkering activities and increase crude oil productivity by Nigerian Agip Oil Company, NAOC which would in turn increase the revenue of the state and federal government.

The statement explains that the activities of DALON Oil and Gas Limited spans beyond Igbomotoru Community noting that since its commencement of operations, crude oil productivity has improved and has enabled NAOC meet the Memorandum of Understanding MOU obligations to host communities.

He emphasized that the company’s operations ensures that the environment is protected making sure that the community residents can still engage in fishing and farming activities.

The statement charged the communities to commend its efforts and not to falsely accuse the company of sponsoring military operations.

Similarly, DALON Oil and Gas Limited equally disassociated itself from the statement credited to the Acting Paramount Ruler Chief Goodluck Alagode, Chairman of the Community Development Committee, Mr Ebipamunu Charles, Mr Goodnews Otobo, CDC Vice Chairman and the secretary where they claimed that the company’s involvement led to the killing of some persons.

Chief Walson stated that DALON Oil and Gas Limited and Chief David Lyon holds the residents living around the area of its operations in high regard and would never put the lives of the people of Igbomotoru in jeopardy.

They urged the Bayelsa State government and security agencies to intervene in the situation ravaging the community, they also called on the public to disregard any contribution of the activities of the military to the company.

On his part, Paramount Ruler Asameigha Ofongo commended the military for coming to the aid of the community by chasing out militants that have turned Igbomotoru into their camp for crude oil bunkering activities.
